I was born and grew up in a large family in Australia. As a mature age student I studied with the Australian College of Applied Psychology, attaining a Bachelors Degree in Applied Social Science (Counselling) and receiving the Dean’s award for “Outstanding Achievement.”
Following my undergraduate studies, I completed a Masters In Counselling with Monash University, Australia.
In 2009 I moved with my husband to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where I lived, completed studies and practiced during 3 and a half years working with children, adolescents, local and expat adults, couples and families.
We moved to Geneva, Switzerland, in early 2013 staying for two years. There I established a private practice working with adolescents, local and expat adults, couples of diverse orientation and families presenting with a wide range of issues and concerns. In early 2015 we moved to Korea where I worked briefly with before returning to Brisbane, Australia in January 2016. I have recently started my private practice in Brisbane’s CBD, at Spring Hill.
I contribute my effective counselling and psychotherapy to the experiences I gained during my formal training, extensive and ongoing further professional development and training, rich and diverse multicultural working environments, feedback from clients, peers, and supervisors, and varied life experiences.
During my Masters studies I interned for 13 months at a private marriage and family therapy practice in Kuala Lumpur city. I worked with adults, couples, families and adolescents. Gaining a great deal of experience in child and adult attachment needs and the stress and distress created when basic emotional needs like safety, security and connection go unmet or are damaged in relationships. At this time I became interested in the success of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples and families and trained in both Europe and Australia.
It was during my early studies that I gained a particular interest in trauma and its affects on the mind, brain, body, psyche (emotions, spirit) and relationships.
I was fortunate to begin working with two well respected organisations in Kuala Lumpur. One working with displaced and frequently stressed and traumatised refugees, the other working with women, children and families effected by domestic violence, sexual abuse, relationship issues and more.
Throughout my journey I have gained extensive experience working with symptoms related to traumatic events and other psychological stressors such as depression, anxiety, suicidality, psychosomatics, traumatic stress and PTSD. And supporting couples and families working through issues and challenges in their relationships.
I provide effective treatment and support to alleviate stress, distress and pain and suffering and help individuals, couples and families find balance and joy in their lives. Having lived in various countries, experiencing and working with diverse ethnic, racial, religious and economic groups, I have become better equipped to relate to and counsel individuals dealing with life changes and challenges.
